Meeting Schedule

The following is a list of our upcoming training.

All training is held at the ambulance shed in Minonk unless noted otherwise.  All training provides 2 CE Hours.  Click here to view the section on additional training options.

MINONK EMS 2008 TRAINING SCHEDULE
Jan. 8*  Policies and Protocols**
BLS/ILS 1.      Review changes in policies and protocols
2 Hrs. 2.      Review of BLS and ILS medications
3.      Case Reviews
Feb. 5 Splinting and Bandaging 
BLS/ILS 1.      How to properly apply Hare and Seger traction splints
2 Hrs 2.      How to properly apply Evacu-Splints and situations when using an Evacu-Splint is beneficial to the patient
3.      When and how to use MAST trousers and all other splinting equipment
4.      Review of medications that can be used to help patients that need splinting.
Feb. 19 Geriatric Emergencies
BLS/ILS 1. Special considerations when assessing a geriatric patient         
2 Hrs. 2. Review of assessment for the geriatric patient
3. Review of how to address multiple system problems
Mar. 4 Skill Checks**
BLS/ILS 1.      Ability to demonstrate assessment
2 Hrs. 2.      Ability to demonstrate use of cardiac monitor for monitoring and defibrillation, cardiac pacing and cardioversion
3.      Demonstrate airway interventions, including intubation
4.      Review of BLS and ILS medications; Review of IV/IO therapy
Apr. 1 OSHA and Bloodborne Pathogens**
BLS/ILS 1.      Knowledge of diseases concerning EMS
2 Hrs. 2.      Ability to demonstrate proper work practices
3.      Understanding proper documentation and reporting
Apr. 15 Farm Implement Training
BLS.ILS          1. Be aware of the danger points in equipment used while farming
2 Hrs. 2. Learn how the equipment can be manipulated to release potential    
    patients.
3.      Review procedures for treating different scenerios.
May 6 CPR Renewals**
BLS/ILS 1.  Reviewing procedures and techniques
2 Hrs. 2.      Reviewing changes in CPR
3.      Ability to pass written test and practical
June 3 Documentation Review
BLS/ILS
2 Hrs. 1. Run Report Review
2. Review of QI indicators
3. Review various styles of documentation formatting
4. Review state bubble forms
June 17 Defensive Driving Course**
BLS/ILS 1. Be able to drive a figure 8 course through cones
2 Hrs. 2. Be able to back into a parking place/ Be able to parallel park
3. Be able to activate all emergency lights and sirens
July 1 Skill Checks**
BLS/ILS 1.      Ability to demonstrate assessment
2 Hrs. 2.      Ability to demonstrate use of cardiac monitor for monitoring and defibrillation, cardiac pacing and cardioversion
3.      Demonstrate airway interventions, including intubation
Aug. 5 Drowning Victims/Trampoline Injuries
BLS/ILS 1. Proper removal from a body of water/proper immobilization
2 Hrs. 2. Proper BLS/ILS airway maintenance
3. ILS medication review
4. Safety, care factors, and potential hazards to consider while on scene
Aug. 19 Football Injuries  
BLS/ILS 1. Review assessment of the football player
2 Hrs. 2. Review proper removal of a helmet
3. Review of the most common football injuries and proper treatment for them.
Sept. 2 CISD
BLS/ILS 1. Review common procedures of a CISD
2 Hrs. 2. When to call in a CISD team.
3. How to initiate response from a CISD team
4. The difference between a diffusion and a debriefing.
Oct. 7 Communications
BLS/ILS 1. Proper use of the radio
2 Hrs. 2. Overview of the basic components of the radio system
3. Basic troubleshooting of the radio system
Nov. 4 Skill Checks**
BLS/ILS 1. Ability to demonstrate assessment
2 Hrs. 2.      Ability to demonstrate use of cardiac monitor for monitoring and defibrillation, cardiac pacing and cardioversion
3.      Demonstrate airway interventions, including intubation
4.      Review of BLS and ILS medications; Review of IV/IO therapy
Nov. 18 Scene Size-Up 
BLS/ILS 1. Scene Safety Factors
2 Hrs. 2. How to identify the need for additional resources
3. How to safely enter a scene

Additional Training

Our Resource hospital (OSF-St. James) has approved up to 8 CE Hours for this online training sponsored by OSF- St. Francis. For those outside of our Resource Hospital, you may need to check with your Resource Hospital regarding CE Hours via this method.
